Introduced back in the late 1800’s, Ailsa Craig is still widely grown because of its mild, sweet flavour, and easy to grow status among onions. When it is well grown it can weigh up to 2-3 pounds, and it will store for 3-4 months, although it is not usually recognized as a long keeper. (Grow “Newburgs” for that.) Start early Spring inside in flats or plugs and transplant outside into fertile, well-amended soil. Keep moist, then let dry down naturally in August. Store cool and dry. Minimum 100 seeds/packet.
