Frequently Asked Questions
Do you grow all of your own seeds on the farm?
Yes, all of the seeds we offer have been grown by us, on our farm. Many seed companies buy seeds in bulk and resell them as their own. Be aware! Often seed companies have websites that look like their seeds are home grown, but usually they are not. It takes a bit of sleuthing to find this out..
Do you farm organically?
Yes! We were certified organic for many years, but we gave it up because of the amount of paperwork and the cost involved. You see, when a farm is certified organic everything you bring on the farm has to be accounted for. And that’s fair. We need to account for what goes into our food and on the land.
That is easy when you have a fifty acre blueberry farm, for example. One crop, easy to keep track of. But when you have a super-diversified farm as we do— sheep, chickens, horses, perennial crops as well as annuals and seed crops— it became unsustainable for us to maintain the paperwork required.
We still farm exactly the same way as before, but we no longer say we are organic (even though we are), as that is now a trademarked term. So we now grow “ecologically”. Make sense?
Are your seeds guaranteed?
All of our seeds are germination tested, and when we send them to you they are ready to grow! If you get unsatisfactory germination please contact us and we will replace or refund your money.
Having said that keep in mind that we don’t control what happens when your seeds leave us. Did something happen to your seeds enroute to you? Did you take your seeds home and leave on a sunny windowsill for three months before sowing them?
Seeds need to be stored cool and dry, in a sealed container.
